Dhruv Jurel has been earning praise from fans as well as former cricketers for his wicketkeeping skills after he replaced the injured Rishabh Pant midway through Day 1 of the Lord's Test. The latter sustained an injury to his left index finger while trying to collect a delivery down the leg-side. Pant walked off the field, and Jurel, who has played four Test matches so far, has been donning the wicketkeeping gloves since then.
Ahead of Day 2, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed via a post on social media that Pant's fitness will be monitored by the team doctors, while Jurel will continue keeping wickets for the Shubman Gill-led side.
Jurel impressed cricket purists with his wicketkeeping technique on Day 1, when he took a magnificent catch to send Ollie Pope back to the hut off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling. The ball spun sharply, and Pope got a thick edge, forcing Jurel to show sharp reflexes to get his gloves in the right position.
Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik commended the technique and positioning of Jurel and went on to compare his differences with Pant.
Karthik dissected the technical aspects of Jurel’s catch and compared it to Pant’s technique on a similar ball. It was understandable from his analysis that Pant’s movements were too quick, which led to him missing the ball, whereas Jurel’s movements were more controlled and aligned, helping him complete the phenomenal catch that got rid of Pope.
“The position of the right leg determines in many ways how well your head position is in relation to the glove,” Karthik explained while speaking to Sky Sports.
“Dhruv Jurel is a lot more lower and closer to the keeping pads, and the height of it as compared to Pant,” the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting coach and mentor added.

Gill fumes at umpire after being unhappy a ball's condition
While Jurel will be able to keep wickets for Pant, the Agra-born will not be allowed to bat in place of the Indian vice-captain. Fans will be concerned about Pant's injury as his batting is an important part of India's plans.
