England skipper Ben Stokes dropped a major update on him bowling in the forthcoming Ashes following his long-standing knee injury. Notably, Earch-rivals ngland and Australia will contest in a five-match Test series, slated to commence on Friday, June 16.
Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated series, skipper Stokes insisted that he is fit and is ready to bowl in the first Test. He further added that he has been putting the hard yards in the training sessions and has increased the intensity to get back to bowling for his side.
“The last three days (of training) have been really good for my confidence. I’ve bowled every day so far and increased in intensity day by day so I’ve got myself in a really good place to be able to bowl. What we have done over the last year is show how we want to play and get the best out of the team and the best out of the individuals,” Stokes was quoted as saying by ‘The Daily Mail’.
Stokes’ injury saw him not bowl a single over in their comprehensive win against Ireland in the one-off Test at Lord's this month. Meanwhile, Stokes also told about how his team will tackle the recently crowned World Test Champions Australia, and stated that his side would use the same approach regardless of the opponents.
“We get asked a lot whether we’ll continue to play in this way against Australia and we’ve made it clear that this is how we play against any opposition because it’s worked more than it’s not. I don’t think there’s any question as to how we’re going to go about our cricket even though it’s against Australia,” he added.
Stokes further revealed that the think tank has directed the team to prepare hard before every game and that there could be changes in between the crucial series.
“All our bowlers have been told to prepare before every game as if you're going to play as it’s going to be very tough for any bowler to play all five Tests and it will be very likely that we'll have to make changes as the series goes on,” he concluded.
