Sunil Gavaskar criticized Shubman Gill's aggressive style, attributing it to his recent Test match struggles despite a stellar performance in ODIs. Gill's form declined post his impressive 128 in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia. Gavaskar highlighted concerns about Gill's approach impacting his Test game, emphasizing the need for a balanced strategy for consistent Test success.

The India opener faced a tough time in the recent Test against South Africa, managing scores of 2 and 28 at Centurion. Despite being demoted to No. 3 in the lineup due to Yashasvi Jaiswal's emergence, Gill struggled to make an impact. He hasn't surpassed 30 runs in five innings since the West Indies series. After India's defeat, Sunil Gavaskar emphasized the challenge of transitioning between red and white balls, highlighting Gill's subpar performance in Test cricket.

"I think he is playing a bit too aggressively in Test cricket. There is a slight difference when you play Test cricket vs T20I and ODI cricket. The difference is in the ball. The red ball moves a little more than the white ball in the air and off the pitch as well. It bounces a little more too. He should keep that in mind," Gavaskar said while speaking on Star Sports.

Sunil Gavaskar urges Shubman Gill to undergo meticulous training

The Punjab batter's Test debut in India's historic series win against Australia in 2020/21 showcased his talent as he tallied 259 runs across three matches at an impressive average of 51.80. His standout 91 in the run chase of 328 at Brisbane remains memorable. However, since then, his form has wavered, marked by sporadic moments of brilliance in the last three years. Sunil Gavaskar expressed optimism and urged Gill to dedicate himself to rigorous training in a bid to rediscover his Test cricket prowess in future matches.

"Shubman Gill started off his career so well and we praised his shots. We can only hope that he gets back into his form. Hope he trains harder and does well in the future," Gavaskar concluded.
