Day 4 of the second Test in Guwahati belonged once again to South Africa, who have almost sealed their first series win in India in 25 years. Starting the day with a strong lead, the visitors batted brilliantly for nearly five hours, extending their lead beyond 500. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar removed Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram, and Temba Bavuma to raise some hopes of a turnaround.

However, Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi stitched a 101-run stand that stabilised South Africa's innings. De Zorzi fell for 49, but Stubbs carried on, finding strong support from Wiaan Mulder. Stubbs’ dismissal for 94, six short of a maiden hundred, prompted Bavuma to declare at 260/5, setting India 549 to win.

Marco Jansen used short balls to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal early. Simon Harmer then delivered a beauty to bowl KL Rahul through the gate, continuing his excellent series. India finished at 27/2, still needing 522 runs and relying on a miracle to avoid a second home whitewash in 12 months.

Top batting performance of the day — Tristan Stubbs

South African batter Tristan Stubbs hammered 94 that anchored South Africa’s second innings in Guwahati. Walking in at No.3, Stubbs took on the opposition bowlers and scored runs at ease. He first stitched a 101-run stand with Tony de Zorzi and then added 82 with Wiaan Mulder.
Stubbs’ 180-ball knock, laced with nine fours and a six, pushed South Africa to 260/5 before the declaration, setting India a 549-run target. He eventually missed a deserving century by six runs after mistiming a slog-sweep against Ravindra Jadeja.

Top bowling performance of the day — Ravindra Jadeja

Ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja delivered a standout bowling performance on Day 4 as the spinner finished with 4 for 62. Jadeja first broke the opening stand by dismissing Ryan Rickelton. He then produced a classic Jadeja delivery to bowl Aiden Markram, completing his 50 Test wickets against South Africa, a feat achieved by only one other left-arm spinner in history. He returned later to trap Tony de Zorzi plumb in front and capped his spell by bowling Tristan Stubbs for 94, ending the innings and leading South Africa’s declaration.
