After a successful T20I series, India will now host South Africa for a three-match T20I series, with the first game scheduled for October 6 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The Indian ODI squad that is set to face the South African side will be totally different from the T20I squad.
Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side in the 50-over games, with Shreyas Iyer as his deputy. Members of the Indian T20I squad have left for Australia to start their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Under Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy, India recently defeated West Indies and Zimbabwe, and the hopes will be high for the series against the Proteas as well.
India won the T20I series by 2-1 and will look to continue the momentum in the ODIs as well. On the other hand, the Proteas will look to make a comeback in the series after facing heartbreak in the T20Is. In the absence of senior pros Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravichandran Ashwin among others, the Shikhar Dhawan & Co. will be aiming to make it big against a full-strength South African side.
In the batting unit, India has the in-form Shubman Gill alongside IPL fames Rajat Patidar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rahul Tripathi. Gaikwad has travelled with the team for many ODI series but is yet to receive his debut cap. Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar, alongside Patidar, has also received his maiden India call-up. There are high chances of the new players getting a debut call as India take on South Africa.
