IPL 2023: Full list of Impact Players used in this season

The 16th edition of the IPL 2023 has already had many memorable moments so far, despite it still being quite early in the tournament. The competition has also undergone many changes this season, with one of the most prominent being the addition of the Impact Player.

The teams announce the names of five substitute players at the toss, one of whom they can bring on at specific points of the game. The subbed-in player then stays on the field for the rest of the game from the point he is brought on. The Impact Player can be introduced before an innings begins, after a wicket falls or a batter retires, or at the end of an over.

So far, it has been working quite well for various sides. With it still being early in the tournament, the Impact Player rule is still evolving, and with teams learning to use it better, it could be expected that all-rounders could play a pivotal role.

KKR Nail Impact Player usage

One of the best instances of the use of the newly implemented rule was when Kolkata Knight Riders took on Gujarat Titans in the 13th match of the IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 9.

Batting first, Gujarat Titans posted 204 runs after fabulous knocks by Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Vijay Shankar, as they amassed 39, 53, and 63* runs to their names, respectively. During the run chase, Kolkata subbed out Suyash Sharma and brought in Venkatesh Iyer.

Iyer was integral for the two-time champions during the run chase, as he provided his side with just the start that they needed. Iyer accumulated 83 runs to his name off just 40 deliveries. Ultimately, Kolkata managed to successfully chase the target down thanks to Rinku Singh’s heroic knock.
