Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, attended the team's first home game played against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 6, as he witnessed his team recording an impressive 81-run win. Shah Rukh's presence seemed to boost Kolkata's performance after losing their opening Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) clash against Punjab Kings.
Shardul Thakur smashed 68 off just 29 deliveries and Rahmanullah Gurbaz recorded his maiden IPL fifty to help Kolkata score a big total of 204/7. In the second innings, Varun Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma shone with the ball to bowl out Royal Challengers Banglore on just 123 runs and treat KKR with their maiden win in IPL 2023. Fans also enjoyed Shah Rukh's presence in the stadium as the Bollywood superstar further lightened up Kolkata's win.
After the game, Shah Rukh met and interacted with players from both the teams. Shah Rukh also had a chat with Gurbaz following which, the latter uploaded a video of the meeting on his Twitter handle. Gurbaz revealed that the Indian actor had interacted with him in the Afghan language and described the actor as a lovely person.
"It was nice meeting Shah Rukh Khan. Such a lovely person he is and could speak the Afghan language as well," Rahmanullah Gurbaz tweeted on April 8.

Shah Rukh was also spotted teaching Virat Kohli dance steps of the trending song 'Jhoome Jo Pathan' after the game. A video of the interaction surfaced to set the internet on fire. Both Shah Rukh and Kohli are among the top personalities with a massive fan following and the video of both starts dancing together further entertained the Knight Riders fans.
A win boosted Kolkata's morale which got reflected in their next game against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, April 9. They pulled off a thrilling win on the innings' last ball while chasing a 205-run target at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Rinku Singh smashed five consecutive sixes off Yash Dayal in the 20th over when Kolkata needed 29 runs to win. A win helped Kolkata jump to the second position in the points table with two wins from their opening three games.
