Former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Subramaniam Badrinath has made a concerning prediction regarding the Chennai Super Kings ahead of their much-awaited clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

CSK are coming into the game on the back of two losses in their first two games. They were beaten comprehensively by the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati and were unable to defend 210 against the Punjab Kings at Chepauk.

On the other hand, RCB have just played one game, but showed dominance expected from defending champions. Badrinath believes in the possibility of Chennai being beaten comfortably, as RCB look like a "well-oiled machine".

"CSK finished at the bottom last year and are already last this season too. In all these seasons, I've never said this, but even I'll say it - RCB are the definite favorites. RCB are in fact clear-cut favorites against CSK. I will be surprised if CSK does well against RCB. CSK should just pray it shouldn't be a thrashing because RCB look on a different level. They are a well-oiled machine. Even without Hazlewood, they look like a very well-balanced team,” Badrinath said on his YouTube channel.

He further stated that one potential factor which provides CSK with a chance is the return of South African batter Dewald Brevis. Brevis, who was signed as an injury replacement in 2025, was a revelation in the later stages for the Super Kings. Despite finishing in last place, Brevis’ 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 was a certain positive. Brevis has been ruled out for the first two games due to a side strain and his participation against RCB is not yet certain.

"CSK's only hope against RCB is if Dewald Brevis is fit again. That looks like a massive void now. That looks like the only chance for CSK against RCB, if Brevis is fit and playing. CSK needn't win the cup, but should at least compete. CSK can't win through proper cricketing logic, so hopefully they can win through some magic," said Badrinath.
