Having been asked to bat first by the hosts, MI put 162 runs on the board from their 20 overs. Following a shaky start, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma managed to bail them out of trouble to post a respectable total. Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for DC, taking two wickets and bowling 10 dot balls to make the Mumbai-based side work hard for their runs.

In reply, the hosts had no trouble whatsoever completing the chase with the utmost ease, despite the initial hiccup caused by the MI bowlers. The Axar Patel-led unit clinched their second consecutive win of the season and also upped their position on the IPL 2026 Points Table with a convincing victory by six wickets and more 11 balls to spare. Sameer Rizvi was the star with the bat, with David Miller adding the finishing touch.

Key Moments from Match 8 of IPL 2026:

Mukesh Kumar's double blow

Mukesh Kumar had an excellent time with the new ball. In this second over, the 32-year-old picked up two wickets, those of Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma. The two scalps in the only the third over of the game slowed down the MI innings, which eventually meant that the final total was never out of DC's reach.

Mukesh bowled a really wide over, which would have been a double-wicket maiden had it not been for Suryakumar scoring a boundary off the final ball.

Suryakumar Yadav leads from the front

Stand-in captain Suryakumar led by example by scoring the only half century of the MI innings. The right-handed batter scored 51 off 36 deliveries, which helped his side reach a total of more than 160.

Suryakumar forged a 53-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Rohit Sharma to steady the innings after the five-time champions lost two wickets in one over. After hitting three fours and two sixes, the 35-year-old was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi, leg before wicket.

Rizvi show lights up Kotla

In a run chase where the target is only 163, seldom would a fan think that a batter would go on to breach the three-figure mark. However, Sameer Rizvi almost defied the odds, looked in sublime touch, and found runs right from the start.

Coming to bat at No. 4 as an impact substitute, the Uttar Pradesh-born took the onus upon himself and struck the ball sweet enough to finish with 90 off 51 balls. The attacking batter attempted to finish the game quickly, but he was caught by Tilak Varma at long-off, leaving DC needing only 12 runs to win. Rizvi's knock was studded with seven fours and as many sixes.
