Sanju Samson finally got off the mark for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 with a brilliant century. He remained unbeaten on 115 off just 56 balls, as the Chennai Super Kings got to 212/2 in their 20 overs after being put into bat by the Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In a hearty moment after his blistering knock, Samson credited Ravi Shastri for his innings, who was present as the broadcaster.
"Yes, sir, feels great thanks to you. I think you seem to be my lucky person to meet before every game, so please come every game sir," Samson told Shastri in a mid-innings flash interview with broadcasters.
Sanju Samson came into the IPL as one of the most talked-about batters in the tournament for two reasons. First, his trade to the Super Kings, which saw Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran going to the Rajasthan Royals in a direct swap, and the second was his form in the T20 World Cup, where he scored 321 runs in five games to bag the Player of the Tournament award in India's victorious campaign.
He started the IPL campaign with three low scores, but finally broke the duck with a century. He spoke of the doubts in his mind due to the scores, despite the performances in the T20 World Cup.
"I think to be very honest, I think how much ever form you are in, how much ever matches you have won for your country, a couple of failures definitely put lot of doubts in your mind. But I just wanted to go back and do my basics and believe in myself and just stick to my scoring patterns actually. So a lot of thoughts came, I think should I go harder in the start or should I change my gameplan. But I definitely want to stick to what was working and luckily it came off beautifully today," Samson added.
Samson shared a brilliant 113-run stand off 67 balls with Aysuh Mhatre, who scored 59 off 36 balls. This partnership was the platform for the CSK innings, before late fireworks from Shivam Dube pushed them above the 200-mark
"I had a great partnership with Aayush. I think such a great youngster. I think I really enjoyed batting with him," Samson said.
This is Samson's first 50-plus score for the Super Kings, and his fourth century in the IPL. His knock is the first century in the 2026 Indian Premier League.
