Jamie Overton was the highest run-getter for Chennai, scoring a well-compiled 43 off 36, but it could not help CSK post anything beyond 127, as they were bundled out in the 20th over. The chase was never going to be a difficult task for the hosts, especially with the presence of a daunting opening pair of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The teenage prodigy was dropped on the first ball he faced and made Ruturaj Gaikwad's men pay a hefty price for it, smashing a thunderous 52 runs off just 17 balls. Suryavanshi's breathtaking stay at the crease ended when Sarfaraz Khan caught him at deep extra cover, also ending the 75-run opening partnership. Jaiswal struggled to find the middle of the bat but continued to rotate the strike sensibly.
