Jos Buttler is the best white-ball opener in the world: Kumar Sangakkara

Buttler, who failed to impress in RR's first three games, returned to form with an unbeaten century off 58 balls against RCB.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Kumar Sangakkara hailed Jos Buttler after his stunning century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Jaipur on April 6, in IPL 2024.

Buttler, who failed to impress in RR's first three games, returned to form with an unbeaten century off 58 balls while chasing an 184-run target. His century propelled the Sanju Samson-led side to a comfortable six-wicket win with five balls remaining.

"Jos is the best white-ball opener in the world, and all he needed to do was sit back and ignore some of the noise," Sangakkara said after the match.

Meanwhile, reflecting on his knock Buttler opened up about his anxieties and stresses due to his recent poor form. He also admitted that he experienced comfort during the clash against Mumbai Indians despite scoring 13 runs. In addition, he etched his name in the history books becoming second batter to score a 100 in his 100th IPL game.  

"However long you've played the game, you still have those anxieties and stresses. Sometimes you just have to tell yourself it'll be okay. Just keep digging in, working hard, at some point we will be okay. I actually did feel really good in the last game, even though I only scored 13 or something," the 33-year-old said at the post-match presentation.

RR continue their winning run, beating RCB by six wickets

Rajasthan Royals, led by Sanju Samson, continued their winning streak, triumphing over Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets. The win marked their fourth consecutive victory in the ongoing tournament.

Speaking of the game RR won the toss and invited RCB to bat first. RCB made a flying start with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis adding 125 runs for the first wicket. The RCB captain fell to Yuzvendra Chahal for 44 runs while Kohli continued to lead the charge and scored a fine century, guiding his side to post a challenging 183/3.

RR faced a setback during the chase, losing the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal in just the second ball of the innings. However, Buttler and Samson stitched a 148-run stand for the second wicket. Samson was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj after a remarkable 42-ball 69 runs. Meanwhile, Buttler smashed a maximum, bringing his sixth IPL ton and thereby guiding Rajasthan to a remarkable win.
