Mohammed Shami played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after being signed at the mega-auction for INR 10 crore. However, he didn't have a great season, bagging only six wickets from nine matches at an average of 56.17 and an economy rate of 11.23.
However, he had just returned to competitive cricket after recovering from an injury, and the rhythm he is known for deserted him. Since then, Shami has worked hard on his fitness and showcased his skills at the domestic circuit for Bengal, picking up 15 scalps in three games in the Ranji Trophy this season.
On Thursday, November 13, reports emerged suggesting that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) had entered the fray, looking to trade Shami in from SRH. However, it seems that the Rishabh Pant-led side could be leading the race to sign the veteran.
On Friday, LSG posted a picture from their social media accounts of Shami's sensational over he bowled to Ben Stokes against England at the ODI World Cup in 2023. This game was played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium, which is LSG's homeground in the IPL.
"Just thinking about this Ekana moment for no reason," the Lucknow-based franchise wrote in the caption.

LSG were let down by their all-Indian pace attack in IPL 2025. The likes of Akash Deep, Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, and Prince Yadav failed to exert pressure on the opposition batters. It was clear that LSG would look to bolster their bowling department ahead of next season.
Having someone like Shami in the side would strengthen their bowling line-up considerably. He will also be able to guide the younger fast bowlers in the squad with his experience of playing on the big stage for several years.
The deadline for IPL retentions is November 15. All the teams are looking to make their final decisions about the players they want to trade and the ones they want to release ahead of next month's auction.
