Maheesh Theekshana ruled out of Asia Cup 2023 final as injuries pile up for Sri Lanka

The Asia Cup 2023 final is right around the corner. India will be facing off against Sri Lanka in the summit clash of the tournament on Sunday, September 17 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

As both sides gear up for the thrilling encounter, the clash could be especially tough for co-hosts Sri Lanka, as the entire side is plagued with injuries. It is known that Sri Lanka will be competing in the Asia Cup final without the services of their five main bowlers. The latest entrant in the injury list from Lanka's end is Maheesh Theekshana, who has been ruled out of the summit clash.

The likes of Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara will all miss the summit clash of the Asia Cup 2023 due to injuries. 

Theekshana will be missing out on the Asia Cup final due to a muscle injury. He sustained an injury in his hamstring, and as his replacement, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) came forward to announce that 27-year-old off-spinner Sahan Arachchige will be coming into the squad for the final. 

The injury to Theekshana adds to the list of injuries that already plague Sri Lanka. With the ODI World Cup 2023 looming around the corner, the ever-increasing injuries will add to Sri Lanka’s concerns as they go on to the marquee event. 

Sri Lanka take on India in the summit clash

With the amount of injuries in their lineup, it could prove to be a grueling task for Sri Lanka to take on the Indian team in the final of the Asia Cup 2023. The side already lost to the Rohit Sharma-led side in the Super Four stage of the tournament and they will be keen on seeking redemption. 

However, it could be interesting to see if they can defend their title, or Team India will be crowned the Asia Cup champions once again.
