The Pakistan Super League (PSL) Players' Draft took place on December 15 in Karachi, where all six teams finalised their squad for the eighth season of the T20 tournament. Over 900 players were available for selection as they were divided into five categories - Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging and Supplementary.

Courtesy of their win in the previous season, Lahore Qalandars were given the first pick from the Platinum category while Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi followed one by one.

There was drama right from the word go as Quetta Gladiators used their Right To Match (RTM) card in the very first round of the draft and took back Naseem Shah from Multan Sultans. The franchise also made some top-notch foreign signings by bringing David Miller, Josh Little, Akeal Hosein and Adil Rashid into the squad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam changed colours right before the PSL Draft as he will be seen leading the Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming season. The 28-year-old was present at the table and made some bold moves by bringing in the likes of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Rovman Powell, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Jimmy Neesham among others.

Islamabad United too didn’t shy away from bringing some of the heavy hitters of the game as they signed English opener Alex Hales and Rahmanullah Gurbaz for PSL 8. Meanwhile, the Karachi Kings signed the veteran Imran Tahir along with Matthew Wade, James Vince and Andrew Tye among other foreign players.

The defending champions, Lahore Qalandars signed the T20 sensation Sikandar Raza while Quetta Gladiators signed the leading wicket-taker of the T20 World Cup, Wanindu Hasaranga. The team also signed Odean Smith and Martin Guptill for the forthcoming season.

Notably, the likes of Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad went unsold in the PSL Draft.
