Team India will cross swords with Asia Cup 2022 winners, Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series and as many ODIs scheduled to commence on January 3, 2023. With the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) hosting the contest, it is understood that the prices of tickets are likely to be increased as per reports.
The Lankan Lions will tour India to kickstart the New Year in a multi-format white-ball series. As reported by TOI, MCA has decided to raise the prices of tickets as the budget for organizing a T20I contest increased since the last T20I match held in the venue.
"With costs having gone up, the budget for organizing a T20I has increased since then, so we felt a need to increase the ticket prices for the public slightly. The (subsidized) ticket prices for the MCA's clubs and donors (7,000) will remain the same," claimed one of the sources.
The Wankhede Stadium last hosted a T20I match back on December 6, 2019, when India played West Indies. Since 2019, the prices of the tickets have made an uptick from 10 to 15% ahead of the Sri Lanka series. The decision to increase the ticket price was made during the MCA’s Apex Council meet on Friday, December 9.
India play Sri Lanka in 3 ODIs and T20Is
The Rohit Sharma-led side lost the recently concluded ODI series against neighbours Bangladesh away from home. The Men in Blue have had their fair share of failures in the 50-over contest losing both their recent bilateral series.
The side will now play the Bangla Tigers in a two-match Test series and India will be gearing up for results in their favour. The red-ball series accounts for the ICC World Test Championship and the series will set the tone for the summit clash of the event. Following the conclusion of the series, India will then play the Lankan Lions early on in 2023 January for what will prove to be an exciting affair between the heavyweights.
