Despite guiding his side to a thrilling win over the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Shubman Gill has landed in trouble with the BCCI for a slow over-rate offence. The Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper has been fined INR 12 lakh, marking his first offence of the ongoing season of the marquee tournament.
Gill now joins PBKK captain Shreyas Iyer, who has already been penalised twice for similar breaches, while Abhishek Sharma was earlier pulled up for showing dissent at the umpire. The Titans were involved in the first last-over thriller of IPL 2026, with captain Gill displaying remarkable composure under pressure.
Defending 13 runs in the final over, the young captain entrusted Prasidh Krishna with the responsibility. Having recently delivered in a similar high-pressure scenario as an impact player, Prasidh once again held his nerve and ensured that the Capitals fell agonisingly short, despite the presence of the dangerous and in-form David Miller at the crease.
“Gujarat Titans (GT) Captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi,” the IPL said in a statement.
As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakh. Talking about the game, GT survived a late scare as the hosts finished just one run short. The final over drama was further amplified by an interesting call from Miller.
After smashing a six to bring the equation down to two needed off two deliveries, Miller chose not to take a single on the penultimate ball, denying strike to his non-striker, Kuldeep Yadav.
The decision ultimately proved costly, as Kuldeep was run out off the final delivery, after brilliant glove work by Jos Buttler, sealing a dramatic win for the Titans and denying Delhi a third consecutive victory.
