The 58th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the 2016 season champions Sunrisers Hyderabad and the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday, May 13.
After Hyderabad posted 182 runs on the board in the first innings, Lucknow Super Giants chased the target down in fabulous fashion. The knock of Windies keeper Nicholas Pooran proved to be crucial for the Krunal Pandya-led side. Playing an explosive knock alongside Prerak Mankad, Pooran amassed 44* runs in just 13 deliveries.
In his performance, the 27-year-old clinched a unique record as well. Pooran became only the second player to hit three sixes off the first three balls faced in an IPL innings. He hit Abhishek Sharma for three consecutive sixes in the last three balls of the 16th over. Sunil Narine is the only other player to achieve this feat as he hit three sixes against Dan Christian when Kolkata Knight Riders took on Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021.
LSG reclaim fourth spot in IPL standings
After brilliant knocks by Heinrich Klassen, Abdul Samad, and Anmolpreet Singh, Hyderabad posted 182 runs on the board in the first innings. Coming in to chase the target, Lucknow got off to a horrid start as Kyle Mayers was sent back to the pavilion for just two runs. However, the knock of 29-year-old Prerak Mankad came in clutch for the visitors.
Playing his second match for the side, Mankad amassed 64* runs in 45 deliveries. He stood at the crease until the end to make sure that he propelled his side to a brilliant win. He was accompanied by Nicholas Pooran, whose blitzkrieg did the job for Lucknow.
After the win, Lucknow jumped up to fourth place in the IPL points table. Currently, they have 13 points in 12 games, and they would be keen on winning their forthcoming games to solidify their place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
