Former Sri Lanka batter Kaushal Silva has been appointed as the head coach of the Hong Kong men's cricket team. The appointment comes roughly a month and half ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Silva brings along him a thorough seven-year experience of playing at the highest level, where he represented Sri Lanka in 39 Tests, scoring three centuries. His records in First-Class cricket are even more impressive, as he scored almost 14,000 runs, including a staggering tally of 41 hundreds. The Cricket Hong Kong was delighted to onboard a seasoned campaigner for their upcoming assignments.
“Kaushal's dedication to nurturing and developing talent resonates with our vision for the future of cricket in Hong Kong. We believe that under his guidance, we can not only elevate our competitive standing but also promote the sport within our community,” Burji Shroff, the board chairperson, said.
“My focus will be on instilling a strong work ethic and a winning mentality amongst the senior squad and working to identify and nurture fresh talent for continued growth,” said Silva on the occasion of his appointment.
Hong Kong are placed alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in the Group B of the multinational tournament. With the former Sri Lanka cricketer at the helm of coaching duties, the Asian side will certainly look to upset the teams in their group to make it further into the tournament, where the top two teams from each group will be entering the Super 4s stages.
