Rain turned out to be victorious in both T20 World Cup 2022 games scheduled at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday (October 28) as they were abandoned. The first game between Afghanistan and Ireland was abandoned without a ball bowled but fans were hoping for some action in the high-voltage Australia-England game. But due to wet outfield, the second game also called off by the match officials.

Afghanistan and Ireland split points after the match was abandoned, which totally benefitted the Irish team. Ireland jumped to the third position in the Super 12 Group 1 table with three points from the opening three matches. They earned a big two points against the mighty England team after winning the game by five runs on a D/L method.

But the Afghanistan camp were not happy with just one point as this was their second abandoned game from their three matches in the Super 12 round. With just two points in hand, the Asian team are placed at bottom of the league table with a poor net run rate as well.

Australia and England share points:

Australia made a great comeback against Sri Lanka in the last match, after a huge defeat against New Zealand in their opening Super 12 Group 1 clash. They were hoping for a win against England but will not be too disappointed with a point given the recent T20I meetings against their rival. The hosts are now struggling in the fourth position with three points from the opening three games with very poor net run rate of -1.555.

England were definitely hoping to top the group table with a win but once again rain played a huge role. After suffering a heart-breaking five-run defeat against Ireland on the D/L method in their last game, England now sit in the second position in the updated Group 1 table with three points and with the positive net run rate. With all first four teams having three points, the next matches will be very crucial for every team in Group 1.
