KL Rahul impressed with a fine century on Day 1 of the second unofficial Test between England Lions and India A at the County Ground in Northampton on Friday, June 6. The knock was all the more special because of it coming under challenging conditions and moreover, at the top of the order.
At one point, he had scored only one run off 10 deliveries. His first boundary came on his 11th ball. There was a delay due to rain after Yashasvi Jaiswal had departed. Rahul looked at ease after the restart and continued with his toil even after Abhimanyu Easwaran was dismissed. He stood unbeaten at 26 off 58 at Lunch.
Rahul got to his half-century on the final ball of the 38th over, a feat which took him 102 deliveries. At Tea, the only six of the game had come off Rahul's bat. He picked up his tempo after getting to his fifty. He stood seven away from a landmark ton ahead of the third session.
Rahul's century was brought up shortly after play resumed. He brought up his ton with a single off a no-ball. However, he fell for 116 while going after a full ball outside the off stump and getting a thick outside edge that was snaffled up at second slip. This came on the next delivery after he had struck a crunching boundary.
