Shubman Gill's return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy didn't turn out to be too fruitful as he scored just 11 runs off 12 balls against Goa at the KL Saini Ground in Jaipur on Tuesday, January 6.

The stage was set for the right-handed batter to get some match practice ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Goa were bowled out for just 211 in 33.3 overs after Prabhsimran Singh won the toss and opted to bowl first. There was no scoreboard pressure on Shubman, but he was sent packing by former Karnataka speedster Vasuki Koushik in the fifth over. He was caught by Suyash Prabhudessai.

Shubman hasn't registered a 50-plus score in the white-ball format since February 20, 2025. He has played seven ODIs during this period. The Punjab batter was recently dropped from India's squad for the T20 World Cup. He didn't score a single half-century in the 15 T20Is he played in the year gone by. After his latest failure in domestic cricket, all eyes will be on his performances against the Kiwis in the upcoming ODIs.

After getting dismissed cheaply against Goa, Shubman was mercilessly trolled on social media, with some users opining that the 26-year-old can't even survive against club-level bowlers these days.

While Shubman failed to deliver with the bat, Punjab managed to pick up a comfortable win against the Deepraj Gaonkar-led side. Punjab romped home in 35 overs on Tuesday, with six wickets left in the bank. With this win, Prabhsimran and Co. held onto the top spot in Group C, with 20 points from six matches.
