The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is currently underway, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. England are among the favourites in the marquee event but have had a topsy-turvy start to their campaign. Led by Harry Brook, they will rely on the experience and firepower of Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Jofra Archer, and Sam Curran.

England have lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy twice, in 2010 and 2022, and enter the tenth edition with a golden opportunity to create history. With 20 teams competing, they will be aiming for an unprecedented third title.

England have played four T20Is at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and have two wins so far. Their first match at the venue came against India in 2011, which they won by six wickets. India posted 120/9 in 20 overs, with Suresh Raina scoring 39 while the rest of the batting line-up struggled. For England, Steven Finn took 3/22, while Tim Bresnan and Ravi Bopara picked up two wickets each.

England chased down the target in 18.4 overs, with Kevin Pietersen scoring 53 off 39 balls. Their next appearance at the venue was in the final of the T20 World Cup 2016 against West Indies, which they lost by four wickets. England scored 155/9, with Joe Root making 54, while Dwayne Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite claimed three wickets each for West Indies.

West Indies completed the chase in 19.4 overs, powered by Marlon Samuels’ 85 and Brathwaite’s unbeaten 34 off 10 balls, including four sixes to seal the title. Last year, the Three Lions appeared at the Eden Gardens to face India. However, they lost by seven wickets. England managed 132, with Jos Buttler scoring 68, before India chased it down in 12.5 overs, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s 79.

England's most recent clash at the Eden Gardens came against Scotland on Saturday, February 14. Brook and Co. bowled out Scotland for 152 in 19.4 overs after Adil Rashid starred with a three-for. In reply, Tom Banton scored an unbeaten half-century as England romped home in 18.2 overs, with five wickets to spare.
