The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is currently underway, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. New Zealand have made a strong start to their campaign, registering impressive victories against Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates. Led by Mitchell Santner, the Black Caps are aiming to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup title.
The squad features explosive batters such as Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, experienced campaigner Daryl Mitchell, and a potent bowling attack comprising Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy. After suffering a disappointing T20I series loss against India prior to the tournament, New Zealand have shown resilience and determination as they seek to make a deep run in the competition.
What is New Zealand’s record at Narendra Modi Stadium in T20Is?
New Zealand have played only one T20 International at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. That match came during their tour of India in 2023 and was the third T20I of the series. India delivered a dominant performance, posting a formidable total of 234/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Shubman Gill was the star of the innings, scoring a sensational unbeaten 126 off 63 deliveries, striking 12 fours and seven sixes at an impressive strike rate of 200. He was well supported by Rahul Tripathi, who made 44, Suryakumar Yadav with 24, and captain Hardik Pandya, who contributed 30 runs.
For New Zealand, Michael Bracewell, Blair Tickner, Ish Sodhi, and Daryl Mitchell managed to take one wicket each. However, the visitors struggled immensely during the chase and were bowled out for just 66 runs in 12.1 overs. Daryl Mitchell top-scored with 35, while Santner added 13, but the rest of the batting lineup fell cheaply.
India’s bowling attack was clinical, with Hardik Pandya claiming 4/16, while Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, and Shivam Mavi picked up two wickets apiece. As New Zealand prepare to face South Africa at the same venue on February 14 in the ongoing tournament, they will be determined to improve their record and turn the tide at this ground.
