The newly elected Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal has formulated some policies immediately after beginning his journey in a new position. In one of those policies he has made it crystal clear that the Indian players will not be allowed to participate in the global franchise leagues.
At the same time, making a major announcement regarding the highly-anticipated Women’s IPL, Dhumal has mentioned that the tournament will turn out to be a ‘world-class property’.
Fans should make it to the stadium in large numbers: Arun Dhumal
"The way we are planning for this Women's IPL is that we will have a new set of fans joining the game. There are lot of female fans who have added to the IPL fan base and this tournament will only add to that and many more would want to take up the sport as a profession. That was the idea behind announcing equal pay (for women India cricketers),” said Arun Dhumal as reported by NDTV.
"Fans should make it to the stadium in large numbers whether we have the WIPL in rural areas or main city centres. We will evaluate that and take a call soon," he added.
"We are working on making it one of the best women's cricket tournament in the world. What we did in the IPL, we want to do something similar with WIPL."
The inaugural edition of the WIPL is set to get underway in March next year. Five teams are likely to participate in the first season. Nonetheless, the bidding for those teams is yet to be organized.
After years of planning, the Indian women’s cricketers will finally get a league of their own just like the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), and, The Hundred Women’s competition. The Indian women’s cricket team has indeed earned a lot of praise recently as a result of some outstanding onfield performances this year that saw them bag silver at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and a record seventh Women’s Asia Cup title.
