Australian skipper Pat Cummins took a subtle yet sharp dig at the Edgbaston pitch following India’s commanding 336-run victory over England in the second Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India breached the Edgbaston fortress for the first time in their Test history.

While England and India battled it out in Birmingham, Australia were simultaneously engaged in the second Test of their three-match series against the West Indies. The Aussies clinched a 133-run win. Speaking after the match, Cummins humorously criticised the pitch and mentioned that no one would want to be a bowler at Edgbaston pitch.

"... We'll keep an eye on that series. Who would want to be a bowler over there? Not surprised with the fact that it was the third flattest wicket over there in the history of England cricket," Cummins said during post-match press conference.

He went on to note that the surface in Grenada was completely different compared to Edgbaston, indirectly pointing out how much more bowler-friendly the Caribbean pitch was at National Cricket Stadium.

"Look, Test cricket over here as compared to Test cricket over there, looks like two different sports. Looks like it is going to be a good series over there. 1-1. Didn't watch a lot of it but saw the scores," said Cummins.

The Lord's Test will be a cracker: McCullum

England head coach Brendon McCullum shared that he had communicated his preferences to MCC head ground staff Karl McDermott, taking inspiration from last month’s ICC World Test Championship final. In that match, both Cummins and Kagiso Rabada extracted significant seam movement at the venue, making it a challenging outing for batters.

"It'll be a blockbuster either way, but I think it's going to set up for a cracker - especially if there's plenty of life in it (the pitch)," McCullum said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The third Test between India and England is scheduled to begin on July 10 at Lord’s, while Australia will aim for a series whitewash against the West Indies in the final Test of their three-match series, a day-night encounter set to begin on July 12 at Sabina Park.
