The much-awaited Women's T20 World Cup 2023 is slated to kickstart from February 10 in South Africa, as 10 teams will fight across the span of a fortnight for the coveted title, with the final to be played on 26 February. The opener will see hosts South Africa crossing swords with Sri Lanka at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.
The teams have been split into two groups as Group A consists of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh whereas Group B will feature England, India, Pakistan, West Indies, and Ireland. The top two teams from the points table will progress to the semi-finals.
The ICC announced Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Paarl as the three venues for the marquee event and this will be the first time that the competition will be held on African soil. Interestingly, this also marks the first senior ICC World Cup hosted in the nation since 2007.
Australia are the reigning Women’s T20 World Cup champions and are also the current No.1 side in the Women's T20I Team Rankings. Undoubtedly, the Aussies are favourites to reclaim the trophy and they look in great shape in their title defence as the side heads into the event at the back of a 2-0 series win to Pakistan.
Speaking about the Indian contingent, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. will need to quickly bounce back from the recent loss in the finals of the South Africa Women's Tri-Series.
