Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik believes that the stars are aligned for the Indian women’s team to win their maiden Women’s Cricket World Cup trophy on Sunday, November 2, when they collide with South Africa in the final at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. punched their ticket to the final after a thrilling victory over Australia, chasing down a record target of 339 runs to oust the reigning champions from the competition.

Karthik feels that India have momentum on their side after accidentally stumbling upon a formidable team combination. After three consecutive defeats to South Africa, Australia, and England, the Women in Blue made some changes to turn their fortunes. A freak injury to Pratika Rawal in the inconsequential clash against Bangladesh resulted in India fielding six bowling options in the semi-final against Australia.

“Everything suggests that India has the momentum. In their last three games, they have beaten two tough opponents. When you have everything aligning and telling you that you are the team expected to win, I would like to think that India have a great chance,” Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

“India have stumbled upon this playing XI by accident at the back end of this tournament. It could have gone pear-shaped easily, but they stuck together to produce one of the greatest performances by a women’s team. If they play anywhere close to their potential, they will beat South Africa,” he added.
