The wait for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 is finally coming to a close as the tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 4. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants will go head-to-head for the coveted title.

Every match of the tournament will be played in Mumbai, with the Dr. DY. Patil Sports Academy and the Brabourne Stadium as the two venues. Each franchise will face each other twice in the league stage, with 22 matches scheduled throughout the competition. The organizers recently released an electrifying anthem for the tournament along with its official mascot, 'Shakti.'

The first match will see Mumbai Indians Women take on Gujarat Giants Women at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy on Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 PM. Both the teams boast an impressive lineup, as Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading Mumbai Indians in their quest for title glory.

On the other hand, Beth Mooney is the captain of Gujarat Giants, and she too will be looking to lead her side to the inaugural WPL title. Apart from Mooney, GUJ-W boasts a line-up that includes the likes of Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, and Sophie Dunkley.

Mumbai Indians are just as strong, if not stronger. Nat Sciver, Amelia Kerr, and Pooja Vastrakar are some of the players who could have a major impact as the tournament begins. The excitement for the inaugural season knows no bounds as cricket fans are buzzing, waiting to see their favourite players in action.

Apart from Harmanpreet Kaur and Beth Mooney, Smriti Mandhana was announced as the skipper of RCB-W, Meg Lanning will lead Delhi Capitals, and Alyssa Healy was named the skipper of UP Warriorz. The WPL will be integral to boosting women's cricket not just in India but at a global level, and will help promote new talent as well.

The tournament will have matches in the 3:30 pm and the 7:30 pm slots, as is the case in IPL. In the first season, WPL will have only four double-headers, on the 5th, 18th, 20th and 21st of March.

The broadcast rights of the tournament in India are exclusively held by the Sports 18 Network, which owns the Sports 18 satellite channels and the streaming media platforms Voot and Jio Cinema. Thus, TV viewers can watch the WPL on the Sports18 Network whereas digital viewers can view it for free on Jio Cinema.
