The league stage of IPL 2023 will finally come to an end with a double header on the ‘Super Sunday’ on May 21 as Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Both teams are coming into the fixture having lost their previous encounters as Mumbai Indians lost by five runs against Lucknow Super Giants while SRH lost against RCB by eight wickets.
Mumbai are ranked sixth in the points table, having 14 points to their name with seven wins from 13 matches. The Rohit Sharma-led side started their campaign with back-to-back losses against RCB and CSK and made a great comeback by completing a hat-trick of wins against DC, KKR and SRH.
The five-time Champions have won four out of their last six matches and have a great chance of qualifying for the playoffs. MI need to win by a huge margin against SRH to bolster their chances of qualification. Despite a win, their fate will be in the hands of RCB, LSG and CSK as a loss of any of the three teams will help Mumbai to seal their spot in the playoffs.
On the other hand, SRH are ranked last (tenth) on the points table with just four wins from 13 matches. They started their campaign with back-to-back losses against RR and LSG, however, the Aiden Markram-led side made a comeback by beating PBKS and KKR in consecutive games. But their campaign went haywire following that as they could win just two games out of their next nine. Having been already knocked out of the tournament, SRH will be eager to spoil MI’s party as well by beating them and ending their campaign on a high.
