Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lock horns in match 39 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, April 23. Both the teams are poised one after the other on the points table, having four wins and three losses from seven games each. The Men in Yellow are placed at No. 4, while LSG are stationed at No. 5.

They faced each other on Friday, April 19 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. KL Rahul and Co. chased down a 177-run target with eight wickets and one over to spare. Skipper Rahul was adjudged Player of the Match for his knock of 82 off 53 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 286 runs from seven innings at an average of 40.86 and a strike rate of 143. His opening partner, Quinton de Kock, has scored three fifties in seven outings for LSG. Nicholas Pooran has also been in fine form, having scored 246 runs from seven innings at an average of 82 and a strike rate of 164.

On the bowling front, Lucknow have had the likes of Yash Thakur, Krunal Pandya, and Mayank Yadav producing some fine performances. However, the Yadav's injury has been a huge loss. The right-arm pacer has resumed training and there is a possibility that he could be seen in the playing XI soon. Thakur has picked up eight wickets in six games but he would want to bring his economy rate down as it is 10.18 at the moment. Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi's form would be a concern as the leg-spinner has only bagged five wickets from seven games. LSG would hope that he returns to form sooner rather than later as the tournament approaches the business end.

For Chennai Super Kings, Shivam Dube has been the most impressive batter. The southpaw has scpred 245 runs from seven games at an average of 49 and a strike rate of 157.05. He has hit 20 fours and 15 sixes so far. Meanwhile, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has not taken the tournament by storm but has fared decently, as he has scored 241 runs at an average of 40.17 and a strike rate of 130.27. The right-handed batter has two fifties from seven games. MS Dhoni has played some useful cameos lower down the order. In the last game against Lucknow, he smashed an unbeaten 28 off nine balls. While many want him to bat up the order, head coach Stephen Fleming said that he would be unable to do so due to his knee issue.

Mustafizur Rahman is the leading wicket-taker for CSK with 11 wikcets from six games at 20.55. Matheesha Pathirana has also fared well, having taken nine wickets from four games at a remarkable average of 13. CSK fans would want Deepak Chahar to strike with the new ball. He is averaging 41.25 and has an economy rate of 9.08 this season.
