Rishabh Pant smashed 93 while Shreyas Iyer scored 87 as India got bundled out for 314 in their first innings, taking a lead of 87 on the second day of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam picked up four wickets each for the hosts as they restricted the visitors to below a total of 350.
Captain KL Rahul’s poor form against Bangladesh in Test cricket continued as he got dismissed for just 10. The right-handed batter has amassed just 67 runs in five innings at an average of 13.40 against the Bangla Tigers. Shubman Gill mustered 20 while Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli scored 24 apiece.
Iyer and Pant then stitched a 159-run partnership for the fifth wicket, the highest for India against Bangladesh, as the duo took India from 94/4 to 253. At the end of the day, Bangladeshi openers Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto survived a crucial six overs in which they scored seven runs. Going into the third day, the home side trail by 80 runs with all wickets intact.

3 – Rishabh Pant has now smashed the third-most sixes (55) by a wicketkeeper in Tests. He went past Brad Haddin’s tally of 54 maximums. Adam Gilchrist and MS Dhoni are in the first two positions with 100 and 78 sixes respectively.
7008 – Cheteshwar Pujara reached the landmark of 7000 runs in Test cricket. He became the eighth Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Rahul Dravid (13265), Sunil Gavaskar (10122), VVS Laxman (8781), Virender Sehwag (8503), Virat Kohli (8118), and Sourav Ganguly (7212) to grab the feat.
651 – Shakib Al Hasan reached the milestone of 650 wickets in international cricket. He became the seventh spinner after Muthiah Muralitharan (1347), Shane Warne (1001), Anil Kumble (956), Harbhajan Singh (711), Daniel Vettori (705), and R Ashwin (670) to achieve the feat.
21 – Pant has now slammed the second-most sixes (21) for India in Tests in a calendar year. He went past Rohit Sharma, who hit 20 in 2019. Sehwag tops the chart with 22 maximums in 2008.
159 – Shreyas Iyer and Pant registered the highest fifth-wicket partnership of 159 for India against Bangladesh. Previously, Iyer and Pujara shared a 149-run stand in the first Test of the ongoing series.
67 – KL Rahul has scored just 67 runs in five innings at a poor average of 13.40 and with the best score of 23 against Bangladesh in Test cricket.
185 – Virat Kohli has managed to amass just 185 runs in his last nine Test innings at an average of 23.12.
67.10 – Pant has struck 671 runs in 11 innings at a solid average of 67.10 with two centuries and four half-centuries in 2022.
2 – R Ashwin completed the landmark of 3000 runs. He became the second Indian after Kapil Dev to score 3000 runs and pick 400 wickets in Test cricket.
21 – Pant is second on the list for the most sixes (21) by a wicketkeeper in Test matches in a calendar year. Gilchrist occupies the top spot with 22 maximums in 2005.
6 – For the sixth time, Pant got dismissed in the nervous nineties in the longest format of the game. Dhoni, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sehwag were all dismissed five times each. Tendulkar and Dravid are in the top two positions for getting out in the 90s ten and nine times respectively.
