After sealing a victory over Australia by a six-wicket margin in Chennai, Team India (IND) now travels to the capital city of Delhi to face Afghanistan (AFG) in their second game of the ongoing World Cup. Match No. nine is all set to take place on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Afghans are coming on the back of a defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in Dharamsala.
Talking about India’s opening fixture, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul struck valuable half-centuries before the bowlers did a terrific job of bundling out the Aussies for just 199 in 49.3 overs. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for his solid spell of 3/28 (ten). Each and every bowler picked up a wicket as the Kangaroos struggled on a spinning track at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
Chasing 200 for victory, Kohli and Rahul smashed 85 and 97* runs respectively as the host nation reached their target in 41.2 overs with the loss of four wickets. Rohit Sharma and his men will look to keep the winning momentum going and make it two in two against the Afghans. Notably, team India will then face arch-rivals Pakistan in a blockbuster mouth-watering clash on Saturday, the 14th at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
