Nathan Lyon’s eight-wicket haul in the second innings has put Australia in the driver-seat after they eked out an 88 run lead in the first innings. Aussies are on the verge of confirming the final spot in World Test Championship for the first time.

Speaking about how the day panned out, Australia after having the 47 runs lead started the day on positive note with Cameron Green and Peter Handscomb adding 31 more runs without losing wicket. However, Ravichandran Ashwin broke the partnership by setting up the latter.

Umesh Yadav then joined the party along with Ashwin as they both ran through the Australian lineup by picking up 5 wickets for 11 runs. Yadav, meanwhile, registered his 100th home wicket and Australia were bowled out for 197 with the healthy lead of 88.

In the second innings, India succumbed to Lyon’s dominance as no batter other than Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer crossed the 25-run mark. Pujara survived 142 balls as he notched up his 35th Test fifty and 10th in Border-Gavaskar Trophy helping India post a total of 163.

For Australia, Nathan Lyon registered his second best figures of 8/64 in 23.3 overs. Aussies now need 76 runs to win the third match and confirm their place in the final of WTC 2021/23.

3 -Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev and became the third leading wicket-taker for India across formats with tally of 689 wickets. Anil Kumble (953) tops the list followed by Harbhajan Singh (707).

13 -Nathan Lyon dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara for the 13th time in Tests equalling James Anderson’s tally.

2 -Ravichandran Ashwin (132) became the second leading wicket-taker for India against Australia across formats surpassing Harbhajan Singh’s (129) tally. Anil Kumble tops the list with 142 wickets.

2 -This is the second time India have got bundled out under 200 twice in a Test since 1978.
