After defeating India (IND) by an innings and 32 runs in the first Test, South Africa (SA) now face them in the second and final match of the series. The encounter is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the picturesque Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. The game will also be the farewell fixture for South Africa’s prolific and Test specialist Dean Elgar as he is all set to retire from international cricket.

Speaking in detail about the Centurion Test, the visitors batted first and got bundled out for 245. Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul played an outstanding knock of 101 but he failed to get support from the others. Speedster Kagiso Rabada picked up figures of 5/59 in 20 overs while Nandre Burger also snared three scalps. In reply, Elgar stole the show with his magnificent innings of 185 off 287 which included 28 fours.

David Bedingham and Marco Jansen also struck their respective half-centuries as the home side posted a big total of 408 on the board in their first innings. Virat Kohli played a lone hand of 76 in the second innings while the rest of the batting line-up failed miserably. Jansen and Burger took three and four wickets respectively as India got bowled out a paltry 131. The tourists have never won a Test series on South African soil and the wait will continue this time around as well. Though Rohit Sharma and his men will look to level the series while the Proteas would like to give Elgar a perfect winning farewell.
