ODI World Cup 2023: Semi-Final 1, IND vs NZ Stats & Records at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

India (IND) and New Zealand (NZ) will meet in the first semi-final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The two teams last met in the group stage of the tournament in Dharamsala, where India won by four wickets thanks to an excellent bowling performance from Mohammed Shami (5/54) and a steady knock from Virat Kohli (95 off 104). India won all nine of their matches in the tournament's group stage while New Zealand won five and lost four. 

India have a poor record against New Zealand in ICC knockout matches, having lost all three encounters so far. They lost the 2000 Champions Trophy final, the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final, and the 2021 WTC final. India have also struggled in ICC semi-finals in recent years, winning only one of their last five matches across formats, as they defeated Bangladesh in the 2017 Champions Trophy semi-final. 

New Zealand, on the other hand, have a better record in ICC semi-finals, winning three of their last five matches. They lost to England and Pakistan in the 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals, but defeated India, South Africa and England in their other semi-finals. It will be an Interesting battle between the two teams on Wednesday, with both sides having something to prove. India will be looking to avenge the past while New Zealand will be looking to continue their good form in ICC events.

Rachin Ravindra has been the best batter for New Zealand in this World Cup registering 565 runs in as many as nine innings including three centuries, he will be the key factor for New Zealand in the must-win encounter against Men in Blue.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma vs Tim Southee and Trent Boult  

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have struggled against Tim Southee and Trent Boult in ODIs. In 17 innings against Southee, Kohli has scored 205 runs at an average of 22.25 and struck at 100.98 for six dismissals. Meanwhile, in 12 innings against Boult, Kohli has scored 145 runs at an average of 48.33 and struck at 10583 for three dismissals. 

Rohit has also struggled against Southee and Boult in ODIs. In 14 innings against Southee, he has scored 104 runs at an average of 20.80 and struck at 69.79 for five dismissals. Furthermore, in 11 innings against Boult, Rohit has scored 107 runs at an average of 26.75 and struck at 68.59 for four dismissals. 

The Wankhede Stadium pitch supports early swing, which could favor Southee and Boult. It will be interesting to see how Kohli and Rohit perform against the New Zealand pace duo.
