India (IND) and New Zealand (NZ) will meet in the first semi-final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The two teams last met in the group stage of the tournament in Dharamsala, where India won by four wickets thanks to an excellent bowling performance from Mohammed Shami (5/54) and a steady knock from Virat Kohli (95 off 104). India won all nine of their matches in the tournament's group stage while New Zealand won five and lost four.
India have a poor record against New Zealand in ICC knockout matches, having lost all three encounters so far. They lost the 2000 Champions Trophy final, the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final, and the 2021 WTC final. India have also struggled in ICC semi-finals in recent years, winning only one of their last five matches across formats, as they defeated Bangladesh in the 2017 Champions Trophy semi-final.
New Zealand, on the other hand, have a better record in ICC semi-finals, winning three of their last five matches. They lost to England and Pakistan in the 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals, but defeated India, South Africa and England in their other semi-finals. It will be an Interesting battle between the two teams on Wednesday, with both sides having something to prove. India will be looking to avenge the past while New Zealand will be looking to continue their good form in ICC events.
