Ravindra Jadeja, one of the greatest all-rounders across formats in world cricket right now, was born on December 06, 1988, in Navagam-Khed, Saurashtra. The star Indian player has played 317 international matches and has scored 5897 runs which also includes 530 wickets to his name in international cricket. The 34-year-old has won two ICC titles for his country, the U-9 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 2008 and the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.
Jadeja made his maiden international appearance for India in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo (RPS) in the year 2009. Two days later, he made his T20I debut against the same opposition at the very same venue. Jadeja’s chance of donning the White jersey came against England three and a half years later in Nagpur in December 2012. The left-handed batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler is one of the most prominent all-rounders in the cricketing world today along with the likes of Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, England’s Ben Stokes, and West Indies’ Jason Holder.
Over the years, Jadeja has always been a potent threat alongside Ravichandran Ashwin especially in Test matches on home soil. The opposition has found it really tough to get going against the two spinners in these sub-continent conditions.
As mentioned above, Jadeja was a part of the CT winning team India in the year 2013. Notably, he won the Player of the Match award in the all-important final against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Batting at no. seven, he scored an unbeaten 35 off 25 with two fours and as many maximums as India reached a total of 129/7 in their allotted 20 overs. The summit clash saw its overs reduced because of a delayed start courtesy of rain.
With the ball in hand, Jadeja kept things tight as he leaked only 24 runs in his four-over spell. He also managed to pick up two wickets in the form of Ian Bell and Jos Buttler. Ten years on, Jadeja has now become a permanent and crucial member of Team India in all three formats. In ODIs, he has picked up the third-most wickets (209) by an Indian spinner after legendary players like Anil Kumble (334) and Harbhajan Singh (265). Jadeja is also the only two of the Indian all-rounders who have managed to score over 2500 runs and pick up over 200 wickets in the ODI format. The other name is former legend cricketer Kapil Dev, who scored 3783 runs and picked 253 scalps. Jadeja will hope to continue to deliver both with the bat and ball for his side in the World Cup 2023 edition in India.
