The Arch-rivals of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will lock horns against each other in their opening campaign on August 31, 2023, at Pallekele International Stadium, in Pallekele, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka will be looking to defend their title in their home ground while Bangladesh will be looking to start the tournament on a positive note. Bangladesh will be missing one of their senior players Tamim Iqbal due to injury and the veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be leading his team for both the Asia Cup and the World Cup, respectively.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be missing the service of their pace spearhead Dushmantha Chameera in the Asia Cup while Wannindu Hasaranga their in-form all-rounder will also be missing the first couple of games due to injury. Notably, the clash between both the Asian Giants is expected to be a high-octane clash and the teams will look to start the tournament on high.
