The IPL 2020 caravan, on Saturday, rolled out first double-header of this season. The fans witnessed two enthralling matches and several individual performances at Dubai and Sharjah. The first match turned into a lopsided encounter between Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore and Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals.
RCB bowlers flaunted an impressive bowling performance, restricting RR to a modest total of 154 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal scalped a three-wicket haul and also bagged the Purple Cap after the first innings. Talking about the run-chase, the Bangalore side steamrolled Smith’s men with their batting exploits.
Despite losing Aaron Finch early, RCB’s run-flow continued on the back of Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli. Padikkal slammed 63 off 45 balls while skipper Kohli notched up an unbeaten 72-run knock as RCB registered an emphatic eight-wicket victory. Twitter was all about RCB’s impressive bowling and batting performance. Many fans also hailed Kohli as runs leaked from his willow for the first time in the on-going IPL edition.
After Abu Dhabi’s extravaganza, the IPL 2020 bandwagon moved to Sharjah, a stadium known for dishing out high-scoring thrillers. And that’s what happened when Delhi Capitals were put in to bat first. Skipper Iyer slammed a blistering 88 off just 38 balls while southpaw Rishabh Pant scored a quick-fire 17-ball 38. DC amassed a colossal 228 to put KKR under pressure.
In response, Nitish Rana emerged as KKR’s talisman by scoring an impressive half-century against a robust DC bowling unit. After Rana’s dismissal, Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi tried pulling off something incredible at Sharjah but KKR eventually managed to post just 210 runs on the board, handing DC an 18-run triumph.
Twitter was all about Kohli and Iyer. Both of them delivered impressive performances with the bat and steered their respective sides to the victory. DC also climbed to the top of the points table after their emphatic win.
