Raksha Bandhan is an occasion of joy and celebration all throughout the country, no matter where you hail from or what your background is. It’s a day when the beautiful bond that exists between a brother and a sister is cherished. While the entire nation is rejoicing on this day, how can the cricketing world be far behind? Eminent cricketers like Ajinkya Rahane and VVS Laxman recently tweeted on account of this happy occasion.

From special messages for their sisters to breaking social taboos, Indian cricketers have done it all today (August 26) to ensure that Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in the right spirit. Former cricketers like Aakash Chopra also took to the micro-blogging platform to wish his fans on this day.

Ajinkya Rahane calls his sister ‘best in the world

Vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Ajinkya Rahane is currently in England with the rest of the national squad and hence, couldn’t be home for Raksha Bandhan. As a result, he tweeted an adorable message for his sister Apurva along with a picture of the two of them together, expressing how much he misses her and calling her “the best sister one could ask for”.

Flamboyant southpaw, Gautam Gambhir, on the other hand, chose to do something different this Raksha Bandhan. Breaking all pre-conceived social norms and barriers, Gambhir celebrated the festival with a few transgenders and was tied rakhis on his hands from them. He posted a picture of the occasion and captioned it, “It’s not about being a man or a woman. It’s about being a HUMAN.” With proud transgenders Abhina Aher and Simran Shaikh and their Rakhi love on my hand. I’ve accepted them as they are. Will you?.”

Former Indian cricketers VVS Laxman and Aakash Chopra tweeted Raksha Bandhan wishes to their fans. Laxman beautifully explained the setting of the day in a single line by writing, “When brothers and sisters live miles away from each other, a simple thread keeps holding the affectionate relationship between them.” On the other hand, Chopra urged his fans to “spread love and happiness.”
