Curtly Ambrose, in his recent column, claimed that the current crop of Maroon Caps has no idea of the pride representing West Indies. Ambrose expressed that the cricketing fraternity offering sympathies for West Indian cricket, is not the correct way to go about things.
Earlier, Former English batsman and renowned commentator Geoffrey Boycott tagged the West Indies squad as the worst Test side he has seen in the last 50 years. Michael Vaughan also professed that the ongoing series between England and West Indies would be very difficult to watch as the English bowler ran through the West Indian lineup twice in a single day.
Vaughan also suggested that the standards of touring sides of West Indies over the last few years have gone bad to worse. That said, Ambrose hoped for a better response from the touring side in the upcoming Test matches at Headingley and Oval. The Antigua born bowler also shared the three keys for success in the upcoming matches.
Aggression, confidence, and commitment: Ambrose’s demands
“What concerns me is that I do not think these players know what West Indies cricket means to West Indians and followers of the global game. People feel sad for us and that’s just not right. We have to give the young men a chance to grow. For now, I’m just hoping West Indies can compete at Headingley and Lord’s because what we have seen so far has been pathetic,” commented Curtly Ambrose according to his column at the Daily Mail.
“West Indies must go back to the drawing board and return much stronger in Leeds on Friday. Losing one Test doesn’t mean they are out of the series. Come back with aggression, confidence, and commitment. Our history and the pride we once had in our cricket demands it,” concluded the bowler with 405 Test wickets.
