England fought hard on their way to the T20 World Cup 2016 final in Kolkata but then lost out to some crazy batting effort from Carlos Brathwaite. In 2021, they will return having been the world champions in the 50-overs format. Eoin Morgan might certainly want to add this one trophy to his cabinet as a captain and give England their second T20 World Cup title.

For doing that, Morgan has assembled a bunch of really talented white-ball players, several of whom have earned the riches in the IPL and played an important part in transforming their country’s legacy in white-ball cricket. Apart from Morgan, among specialist batters, T20I No. 1 batter Dawid Malan and Jason Roy have been named.

They have Jos Buttler as the vice-captain, who will also play the role of an opener and wicketkeeper. For back-up to that role, England has Jonny Bairstow and Sam Billings. Speaking of multi-dimensional players, England has got some quality all-rounders, despite missing Ben Stokes from the squad.

Moeen Ali is expected to play an important role in the middle order as well as with the ball. Liam Livingstone is someone who has been added on the back of some stellar performances in the English summer and could even give Morgan a few handy overs of off-spin/leg-spin in some games.

England go to the UAE with only two frontline spinners

The ever-dependable Chris Woakes has also been named along with David Willey, who remains one of the exceptional talents in the country in the shortest format. Sam Curran was initially named in the squad but pulled out due to an injury that brought the opportunity to his brother Tom Curran, who was previously in the reserves.

To fill up the spin department, England has named only Adil Rashid. Considering the conditions, some eyebrows were raised when England named Rashid and Moeen as only two of their main spin-options with Livingstone being a part-timer at best. They have filled up their pace-bowling options though with equal amounts of raw pace and variations.

Mark Wood and Chris Jordan, who have been regular features in the T20I squad for some time, will be joined by Tymal Mills. The left-arm Sussex pacer has been out of the national team for four years now but forced his entry after an impressive show in the Hundred. Apart from these 15, Reece Topley, James Vince, and Liam Dawson have been added as reserves.

England squad: Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood

Reserves: Liam Dawson, James Vince, Reece Topley
