England vs India: Jasprit Bumrah posts a cryptic tweet for his critics after shining in Nottingham Test

“What has happened to him?” “He should be dropped.” “He isn’t the same bowler anymore.” These were some of the comments among the fans and experts for Jasprit Bumrah after he went wicketless in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand in June. Fast forward to August, the same fans and experts are hailing Bumrah and calling him the best bowler of team India.

Well, his WTC final performance was just an aberration. It was unfortunate that the 27-year-old endured bad five (or six days) in the summit clash but it is what it is. The outrage on social media over him not picking a wicket in the game was huge with some even suggesting Bumrah to be dropped for the first Test. Moreover, some keyboard warriors even started commenting not so good things on his wife’s Sanjana Ganesan’s Instagram posts too.

Jasprit Bumrah didn’t speak much then and delivered a brilliant performance in the first Test of the five-match series against England. His show with the ball deserved to be on the winning side only for the rain to ruin the party. The pacer started the Test with a wicket in the first over itself pinning Rory Burns in front of the stumps and finished the innings with four scalps.

In the second innings, he sent back Zak Crawley to help India win the first hour and then scalped the centurion Joe Root apart from the wiping up the tail quickly. Bumrah returned with a stunning five-wicket haul thereby restricting England’s lead to only 208 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah’s indirect dig at the critics

It seems that Jasprit Bumrah was aware of all the criticism after the WTC Final. After coming up with a near match-winning performance at Trent Bridge, he posted a couple of pictures while celebrating a wicket in the game with an interesting caption which read, “Still don’t need you.” The caption possibly was targeted at the critics saying that he doesn’t need them now in his good times.

Meanwhile, after the drawn first Test, India and England will now move to the Home of Cricket, Lord’s, for the second Test match starting from August 12.
