English cricketer Tammy Beaumont is the latest to pick her all-time XI for Tests. Alongside being a member of the World Cup-winning team last year, she also received the player of the tournament award. The 26-year-old had scored 410 runs in the tournament, being the highest run scorer.
Her team may definitely raise an eyebrow for the Indian fans as it didn’t feature either of Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Dravid. She also gave a miss to Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne, and Glenn Mcgrath. However, she had an interesting blend of players in her XI which didn’t make it look any lesser than a champion team.
Alastair Cook who has been regarded as the greatest England batsman was right at the top. His opening partner was the Australian great Justin Langer. While Cook is still active in international cricket, Langer retired a decade ago in 2008. Tammy has opted for a left-right opening combination at the top.
The middle order boasted of enough firepower with legendary figures like Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakkara, and Jacques Kallis. Interestingly, the trio has a combined total of 117 centuries between them. The interesting thing about this team is the brilliant balance between the right and left-handed batsmen.
The lower order comprises on another great all rounder the world has seen, Sir Gary Sobers also named as the skipper. He is followed by another wicketkeeping great in the side, i.e. Adam Gilchrist. Both would be an extraordinary addition to any side of the lower order.
Other than Kallis and Sober, on what can be termed as an English mentality, Beaumont has three more pacers in her lineup. She has two Englishman Darren Gough and Jimmy Anderson as the leader of the pack alongside Wasim Akram. Her spin choice is Muttiah Muralitharan, the highest wicket-taker in Test history.
Here’s Tammy Beaumont’s All Time XI:-
Alastair Cook, Justin Langer, Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakkara, Jacques Kallis, Sir Garfield Sobers (captain), Adam Gilchrist (wicketkeeper), Darren Gough, Wasim Akram, James Anderson, Muttiah Muralitharan.
