10 Facts about Mitchell Marsh – The talented young all rounde: Mitchell Marsh is a hard hitting seam-bowling Australian all-rounder. Since a young age, Marsh has been a prolific performer from the club level to the age group levels. He followed his father Geoff Marsh and brother Shaun Marsh’s footsteps and chose cricket over Australian Football as a career. It took him no time to show his natural ability that he inherited from his father and he is today a valuable part of the Australian national team.

1. Birth:

Mitchell Marsh was born 20 October 1991. He was raised in Perth, Western Australia, where he attended Wesley College.

2. Inspirations:

Marsh grew up idolising legends like Steve Waugh and Jacque Kallis.

3. Growing up under the influence of sports:

Marsh hails from a prolific sporting family – his father Geoff Marsh is a former Australian opener, his brother Shaun Marsh is also an international batsman and his sister Melissa Marsh is a basket ball player for Perth Lynx in the WNBL.

4. Early entry in the dressing room:

Marsh honed his skills in the Australian dressing room as a child, when his father Geoff was the national coach.

5. Youngest debutant:

Marsh made his debut for the Western Australian Warriors at the age of 17 in February 2009 in a Ford Ranger Cup. He became the youngest ever player in an Australian domestic one-day game and Western Australia’s youngest debutant in 70 years. His debut came a week after he made 208 for Fremantle, breaking the club record for the highest score.

6. Led the Australian U-19 team:

Mitchell Marsh captained the Australia Under-19s to victory in the 2010 World Cup in New Zealand.

7. Australia debut:

Mitchell made his ODI debut against South Africa at Johannesburg on October 16, 2011. He made his T20I debut in the same tour against South Africa at Centurion on October 19, 2011.

8. Test debut:

He made his Test match debut for Australia against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates on 22 October 2014.

9. T20 star:

Marsh has played for the Pune Warriors India and Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He currently plays for Kings XI Punjab in the league and is a Perth Scorcher in the Big Bash League.

10. Not just a cricketer:

Marsh was also a talented Australian rules footballer early in his career and represented Western Australia at the 2008 AFL National under-18 Championships.
