In this particular article, we will be listing out 5 players who are the fastest to complete 5000 ODI runs by the number of innings taken. Among these five, three players are still active in international cricket.

5. Joe Root – 116 innings

England player Joe Root has been pretty impressive in his ODI career so far. He has scored 5962 runs in 140 innings at an average of 50.10 and a strike rate of 86.90. This includes 16 centuries and 33 half-centuries. He completed 5000 ODI runs in 116 innings in the match against West Indies in 2019. Root made his ODI debut in 2013 and has played 149 matches for England in the format.

4. David Warner – 115 innings

David Warner became the fastest to complete 5000 ODI runs amongst Australian players in 2020. He reached the landmark in 115 innings. In total, Warner has scored 5455 runs in 126 innings at an average of 45.45 and a strike rate of 95.53. He has smashed 18 centuries and 23 fifties till now.

3. Virat Kohli – 114 innings

Virat Kohli is considered among the greatest ODI players of all time. He completed 5000 ODI runs in 114 innings in 2013, and was the then joint-fastest to achieve the milestone. Overall in his career, Virat has aggregated 12169 runs in 245 innings at an incredible average of 59.07 and a strike rate of 93.17. He has 43 centuries and 62 half-centuries to his name in the 50-over format.

2. Viv Richards – 114 innings

When Viv Richards completed his 5000 ODI runs in 114 innings, he was the fastest to reach the landmark and held the record for more than 25 years. He amassed 6721 runs in his limited-overs career at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 90.20. He hit 11 tons and 45 half-centuries in total.

Hashim Amla holds the unique record of being the fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 runs in the ODI format. He completed 5000 ODI runs in 101 innings in the match against West Indies in 2015. Amla, who made his ODI debut in 2008 scored 8113 runs in his career at an average of 49.46 and a strike rate of 88.39.
