Galle Gladiators and Jaffna Kings lock horns in Match 17 of Lanka Premier League 2022 on December 18, 2022, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Both sides met each other in the opening fixture of this season in Hambantota where the Kings defeated the Gladiators in a low-scoring encounter by 24 runs.
Galle are placed in the fourth position in the points table with four points from five matches, having won two and lost three. They lost their opening two games to Jaffna and Kandy Falcons before registering back-to-back victories against Colombo Stars and Kandy. They lost their third match against the Stars in their last outing.
On the other hand, Jaffna have looked solid as they find themselves at the second spot with eight points, with four wins and two losses. Notably, their losses have come against the Falcons with two wins against Dambulla, and one each against Galle and Colombo.
Speaking about the Head-to-Head clashes, both have met each other eight times, with Jaffna having a 5-3 lead. Notably, both are the finalists of the previous two editions in 2020 and 2021 when Jaffna was crowned champions in both the seasons.

As mentioned above, both teams met in the tournament’s opener in which Jaffna emerged victorious by a 24-run margin. They batted first and got bundled out for just 137 in 19.5 overs. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 29 while veteran Shoaib Malik and Dunith Wellalage amassed 30 each.
In reply, skipper Kusal Mendis struck a half-century for the Gladiators but it wasn’t enough as they got bowled out cheaply for 113. Binura Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for the Kings for his spell of 3/22 in three overs with one maiden.
