Former New Zealand all-rounder, Grant Elliott celebrated his 41st birthday on Saturday. ICC’s social media handle, like they do for every cricketer, wished the former Kiwi player and tried to make his day special by sharing an Instagram post praising his accomplishments. It mentioned Elliott’s record in international record while they highlighted his incredible performance in the 2015 World Cup semifinal.

Elliott had single-handedly won that match for New Zealand as he powered the Kiwis to their first ever World Cup final with a fantastic unbeaten fifty. The South African players were in tears after the defeat which shows how intense the situation was. ICC posted a photo from that game and captioned the image as:

“105 Matches, 2,233 runs, 57 wickets. The star all-rounder will forever be remembered for his batting heroics in the 2015 World Cup semifinal against South Africa. Happy birthday Grant Elliott.”

The all-rounder thanked the ICC stating that he appreciates the message and wishes of the cricket governing body. While many reminisced the great knock from Grant Elliott, one of the users called his knock in the semi-final fluke and also termed him one of the worst cricketers. He wrote in this reply to Elliott:

“Grant Elliot, in your whole life, you played one good cricket that day against South Africa to prevent them from reaching the finals. Think it was a fluke anyway. Then after, you’re nowhere to be seen. Worst cricketer ever in my point of view!”

This is not the first time a fan has tried to take advantage of social media and make negative remarks about a cricketer. On several occasions, the cricketers have hit back at them in style. However, Grant Elliott maintained his class of being a New Zealand cricketer in his reply. “Wow so much hatred. Hope you find peace and contentment in whatever you do.”
