Yuvraj Singh has been a big name in Indian cricket, especially in limited overs, ever since he made his international debut in 2000. He impressed everyone with a stupendous knock of 84 in his debut innings for India in the Champions Trophy of 2000. He went on to help India win two World Cup titles – World T20 in 2007 and the World Cup in 2011.

Yuvraj’s journey involved a lot of ups and downs

On the eve of India’s semifinal against Bangladesh, the spotlight was on the stylish southpaw. This knockout game will be Yuvraj’s 300th One-day International. It has been a tough ride for the Punjab lad, who was diagnosed with cancer soon after he played a pivotal role in India’s World Cup triumph in 2011. He fought back and recovered thereby making a national comeback in 2012. Things never pan out as per plans in life and Yuvraj struggled to get runs post his comeback.

It was only until this year that Yuvraj could win his ODI place back after scoring heavily in domestic cricket. Playing in his second ODI in four years, Yuvraj made a career-best 150 to silence the critics. The 35-year old is in a good space now after getting runs behind him and enjoys the backing of his skipper Virat Kohli.

Yuvraj will become the 4th Indian to play 300 ODIs and the 19th overall. On the grand occasion, his childhood friend and long term teammate Harbhajan Singh showered heaps of praises on the left-hander. Harbhajan uploaded a congratulatory video message for his friend on his Twitter account.

Bhajji praises old friend Yuvi

‘Bhajji’ termed Yuvraj as “special” and someone “very close to his heart”. He called Yuvraj his “friend and brother”. He congratulated him for playing his 300th ODI and said that they never imagined playing for the country for so many years when both were young. The star off-spinner pointed out that “Yuvi has won life battles as well as the battles on the field”. He prayed to God that Yuvraj wins the Man of the Match award in his 300th ODI.

It has been a special journey for Yuvraj filled with ups and downs. He has a couple of years of cricket still left in him and is capable of taking India to another possible ICC title.
