Hashim Amla, one of the greatest batsmen produced by South Africa, put an end to his international career by announcing retirement on 8th August 2019. The last 18-24 months were extremely tough for Amla individually. His mediocre batting performances in both ODI and Test cricket began to affect his career records as his average dropped under 50 in both formats. At this prime, the right-handed opener threatened to break many batting records, especially in the ODI format.

Here are the numbers and records that Hashim Amla created in his International career:

1 – Hashim Amla holds the record for being the fastest to every 1000 runs milestone in ODI cricket from 2000 to 7000. Amla completed 2000 runs in 40 innings, 3000 in 57 innings, 4000 in 81, 5000 in 101, 6000 in 123 and 7000 runs in 150 innings. Amla recently missed out on becoming the fastest to 8000 runs as he needed 176 innings while the record is in 175 innings.

1 – He scored four centuries in as many ODI innings at the SuperSport Park in Centurion between 2015 and 2017. He is the only player with four consecutive ODI hundreds at a venue.

4 – Amla is one of the four players with 25+ centuries in both Test and ODI formats. Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Virat Kohli are the other three such players.

4 – Hashim Amla has four 150+ scores in ODI cricket; two more than any player for South Africa. Overall, only six other players have scored as many as four 150+ scores in ODIs.

4 – Amla’s four double hundreds in Test cricket are the 2nd most by any player for South Africa. Graeme Smith leads the list with five double tons.

20 – Amla has scored 21 out of his 27 ODI tons while batting first. 20 of those 21 first-innings hundreds resulted in victories. No player other than Amla has scored 20 or more winning tons while batting first in ODI format. Amla’s recent most century against Pakistan in January is the only time Amla’s hundred in first innings of an ODI came in a defeat.

27 – No player from South Africa has scored more centuries in ODI format than Amla’s 27. He currently has the joint 5th most hundreds by any player in ODI cricket.

28 – Amla stands at No.2 in the list of most number of hundreds for South Africa in Test cricket. Jacques Kallis leads the list with as many as 45 hundreds.

55 – Hashim’s 55 hundreds in International cricket are the 2nd most for South Africa behind 62 by Kallis. Only five players have scored more than 55 hundreds including Kallis across all formats of International cricket.

311* – Hashim Amla’s unbeaten 311 is the only triple century by a South African in Test cricket. Amla scored it against England during the 2012 Test at The Oval.

8,113 – Amla’s 8,113 runs in ODI cricket for South Africa are the 3rd most by any player. Only Jacques Kallis (11,550) and AB de Villiers (9,427) scored more ODI runs than Amla.

9,282 – Amla is the 2nd highest run-getter in Test cricket for South Africa. His tally of 9,282 runs is bettered by only Kallis (13,206).

18,553 – His 18,553 runs in International cricket are the 3rd most by any player for South Africa. Only Kallis (25422) and De Villiers (19864) are ahead of Amla for the Proteas.

Fastest to ‘n’ 100s – Amla needed the fewest number of innings to score ‘n’ centuries in ODI cricket from 13 to 27. He is also the fastest to 8, 9 and 11 hundreds in ODIs.
